Les Croques Monsieursby lem
Makes 4 Sandwiches
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup of unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1.5 cups of whole milk
- salt
- pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
- ground nutmeg
- 8 slices of sandwich bread
- 8 slices of ham
- 6 ounces of grated Gruyere cheese
- 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
Steps
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Whisk in flour and cook for about 3 minutes.
- Gradually add milk, stirring until smooth.
- Cook and stir until sauce is thickened.
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Spread the sauce on 4 pieces of bread and place sauce side up on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Top each piece with ham, a hand full of Gruyere, and a sprinkle of Parmesan.
- Place remaining bread on top, Gruyere side up, and top with remaining cheese.
- Bake for 5 to 6 minutes until cheese is melted, then broil for 2 to 4 minutes.
